Glossary of Terms

Audience - Individual or group of people for whom a message is intended. Audiences can include specific known people or unknown people.

Benediction - Short blessings or words of encouragement at the end of a religious service or sermon.

Blog - Any online platform where individuals publish thoughts, opinions, or information on various topics. The term is a combination of web and log. Weblog has been shortened to blog and now refers to a wide range of content including images, writing, videos, animations, and other forms of expression. 

Call To Action - An invitation given to an audience. In social media, emails, and blogs, a call to action is typically a link to a webpage or contact form.

Campaign - The act of sharing messages with a specific goal in mind. An email campaign or social media campaign typically has the goal of attracting people to your website or social channels.  

Capstone - A project that demonstrates knowledge or skills to solve a real-world problem.. 

Carousel post - Type of social media content that allows users to include multiple images or videos in a single post.

Content - Refers to all non-technical elements of a webpage or social media platform including words, images, graphics, videos, audio, and more creative expression. Editorial Calendar - A plan that outlines topics, themes, and publishing dates for content including articles, blogs, social media posts, and emails.

Heading - Also known as headers, a heading is a label at the beginning of a section. A heading helps users understand what corresponding text or images include. 

Newsletter - Regularly distributed publication typically shared via email or printed format. Newsletters are informative content about a specific topic, idea, or opinion.

Lesson - Specific question, topic, or instruction provided to inspire individuals in writing or creative endeavors. Lessons often serve as a starting point for creative expression.

Roadmap - A visual or written plan for the key steps, milestones, and goals along a particular project. Roadmaps provide a clear path and direction to follow.

SEO - Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is a technical process of structuring content to be more visible on Google and other search engines. These techniques include strong titles, using headers, adding internal links, and other best practices. 

Search Engines - just to broaden their understanding beyond Google, to include Youtube and also what the younger generation may consider a search tool (do social media channels run their SEO algorithm similar to “traditional” search engines?)

Social Media - Online platforms including websites and apps that allow users to create, share, and interact with content. Individuals can connect and communicate with others through a range of formats.

Tease/Teaser - Creating curiosity or anticipation in the audience by providing a preview or glimpse into upcoming content or information.
