Lesson 1 - How Blogs Help Tell Your Story
What’s worse than listening to a bad story? Telling that bad story.
Your story matters!
A rambling story without a main idea leaves people feeling bored and confused. When you have something meaningful to share, knowing how to organize your story is empowering.
The secret to great storytelling is organization. The power to inspire and transform the way people think can help you change the world!
This first lesson examines how blogs can tell your story.
Blogs are typically short articles that are published on a website. YWAM features blogs about our program, our campus, and on field trips.
Blog posts are an opportunity to inspire others towards a kingdom perspective and also engage specific groups of people (followers, donors, family, etc.).
Let’s not wait to tell your DTS story at the end of the experience. In each lesson, you will learn ways to organize your thoughts and tell your story.
Following each video and written lesson, you have an activation. The goal is to take time each week to write down your experience. Little by little, these short blogs will build and at the end you will have an incredible story to share.
For today, let’s focus on some simple rules when writing a blog or creating any content. As you start to consider this first activation, here are a few tips for writing great blogs:
- Tell your story - Sometimes we make things too complicated or try to tell someone else’s story. Focus on your own experience. This will make it easier to write. And people enjoy authentic stories.
- Write like you talk - The complicated way of saying this is write in a conversational style. When you keep things simple, your story is more relatable and enjoyable.
Short and simple - Don’t feel pressure or anxiety to say everything. Blog posts are often short 1000-1500 words to introduce a subject or idea.
Activation 1
The first activation is three questions. Read through all of the questions before writing. Write a main idea about what coming to YWAM means to you and then answer each question. Your answers will support your main idea.
THE CALLING Isaiah 6:1-8 Isaiah had a vision of God in the temple. God called him to be a prophet to the people of Israel.
